The Family: Reclaiming a Biblical View

Issues regarding the nature of the family are prevalent in contemporary culture. The debates concerning these issues are often characterized by confusion and competing world views. The upcoming conference in the Baptist Distinctives Series, The Family: Reclaiming a Biblical View of the Family, Womanhood, and Manhood will engage these issues from a biblical perspective.
Registration is $25 for students and $50 for non-students through September 6, 2007. After September 6, 2007 registration will be $50 for students and $75 for non-students. Dr. Paige Patterson earned his Ph.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as the President of The Criswell College 1975-1992 and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary 1992-2003. He currently serves as the President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His experience also includes a number of years serving as pastor. He is a member of the Board of Reference for the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. Dr. Patterson’s publications include The Church in the 21st Century. Magnolia Hill Papers, 2001. Dr. Dorothy Patterson received the Doctorate of Theology from the University of South Africa. She served as Professor of Women's Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary 1992-2003 and currently fulfills the same role at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is a member of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. Dr. Patterson’s publications include A Handbook for Parents in Ministry. Broadman and Holman, 2004. Dr. Russell D. Moore earned his Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He became Dean of the School of Theology and Senior Vice President for Academic Administration of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in January 2004. Moore is the author of The Kingdom of Christ: The New Evangelical Perspective (Crossway, 2004) and co-editor of Why I Am a Baptist (Broadman and Holman, 2001). He has written articles for various publications including Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and SBC Life. Moore is a senior editor for Touchstone: A Journal of Mere Christianity to which he is also a regular contributor. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Carl F.H. Henry Institute for Evangelical Engagement and is a regular columnist for Baptist Press. Moore has served on the pastoral staffs of two Mississippi Baptist churches. Prior to entering the ministry, Moore was an aide to United States Congressman Gene Taylor. |

Dr. Mark Liederbach earned his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He has served as Associate Professor of Christian Ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary since 2000. His courses include, Christian Ethics: Theory and Practice and Marriage and Family: Foundations. Dr. Liederbach’s publications include "Manliness and the Marital Vow" in the Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, Fall 2004. He has also contributed part of a chapter to the work God, Marriage and Family by Andreas Köstenberger. Crossway, 2004. |

Dr. Tom Elliff serves as Senior Vice President for Spiritual Nurture and Church Relations for the International Mission Board. In this role, Elliff teaches and nurtures missionaries, mentors IMB staff and relates to Southern Baptist pastors and churches. Elliff served as pastor of First Baptist Church Dell City, OK for 20 years. In denominational life, he served two terms as president of the Southern Baptist Convention, as president of the SBC Pastors' Conference and as chairman of the Southern Baptist Council on Family Life. He also has led in a variety of association and state convention responsibilities. His publications include A Passion for Prayer: Experiencing Deeper Intimacy with God. Elliff has been in the ministry 43 years and has been a pastor all but two of those years -- when he and he wife served as IMB missionaries. |

Dr. Richard Land earned his D. Phil. from Oxford. Dr. Land has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission since 1988. During his tenure as spokesman on Capitol Hill for the largest non-Catholic denomination in the country, Dr. Land has represented Southern Baptists’ interests in the halls of Congress, before U.S. Presidents, and in the major media. As host of For Faith & Family and For Faith & Family's Insight, two nationally syndicated radio programs, Dr. Land speaks passionately and authoritatively on the social, ethical, and public policy issues facing our country. Dr. Land is also Executive Editor of Faith & Family Values, a national magazine dedicated to coverage of traditional religious values, Christian ethics, and cultural trends.
