More than 100 years ago, B. H. Carroll, founder of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, envisioned a school devoted to “the specific training of the young Baptist preacher.” Today, Southwestern pursues the same purpose, one founded upon both the Great Commission and Paul’s plea in 2 Timothy 4:1-5: Preach the Word and reach the world. In this issue of the Southwestern News, you will learn about Southwestern’s emphasis on expository preaching and how the seminary trains creative communicators who are faithful to the Word. You will read about the faculty members who make this training possible and about the students and alumni who have followed God’s call to preach the Word.
