Yes, it is true! Student research and paper writing has just gotten a whole lot easier at Southwestern!
And yes, both PC and Mac users are included!
1. In order to obtain your site license copy of EndNote for either PC or Mac, you will need to:
Click this link and log into Blackboard with your student user name and password. Make sure you check the system and hardware requirements listed below for your computer prior to installation.

2. Download the appropriate manuscript template to your desktop. You will need these manuscript templates to help you format the common 5-10 page research papers according to the Southwestern Seminary Manual of Style. While the manuscript templates do not accomplish all the formatting requirements, they do help! Students should watch the tutorials listed in the next step in order to begin using EndNote. The more advanced tutorials are listed at the bottom of this same page according to topics of interest.
Copy the manuscript template to your computer's desktop. The template is compatible with Microsoft® Word® 2003 & 2007 and Word® for Mac
3. Now watch the two training tutorials below on how to create and cite from bibliographic databases you create with EndNote and use the Manuscript Templates to create perfectly formattted papers (You will need Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer in order to view these tutorials). Use EndNote first to search for bibliographic sources (even in Southwestern's library and ATLA) and build a bibliographic database from the sources you find. Once created, you are ready to activate the manuscript template (for PC or Mac) and create footnotes right from your EndNote bibliography. Yes, it IS that easy!

4. Now it's your turn! While the two tutorials above should get you going with your next research and writing project, there is more to learn and do with EndNote. You should spend some time reading the information below and viewing the more advanced EndNote tutorials, organized by topic. In addition, you will want to copy the filters that allow you to search Southwestern's library for books and articles, and build your database based on the sources you find.

EndNote works with internet connection files that need to be copied and activated before a student can search Southwestern's library for books. This process involves a copy step and an activation step:
1. Locate the Southwestern Library connection file at the link provided below and save to your desktop:
2. Now copy the connections file into the Connections File folder located in your EndNote/X3 program file:

3. Finally, with EndNote running, go to Edit/Connection Files/Open Connections Manager, select the appropriate library connections file and follow the steps to activate that file. You may see other library connections files that you might want to activate, such as: University of Toronto, Princeton University, University of Chicago and Yale University.
For Articles:
Students may export their journal article references right into EndNote. There is a short learning curve on how to do this. Please watch the following tutorial on learning how: How to Export from ATLA Tutorial
Students who have a copy of the seminary style from StyleEase may still use it for formatting. In fact, students may want to use both StyleEase and EndNote, StyleEase for the formatting of the paper and all front matter, such as Table of Contents, Abstract, etc., and, EndNote for the creation of all footnotes and the bibliography. There are no macro conflicts that occur between StyleEase and EndNote with regards to footnotes.
StyleEase users will want to contact support at StyleEase and make sure they received the latest product updates. Some Seminary style users encountered macro conflicts from a Microsoft security update from September 2009. StyleEase users with properly registered software should receive these product update notifications from StyleEase directly.
