Level 2 Certification in Biblical Counseling*

The three classes required for level 2 will be offered in the spring 2010 semester on January 22-23, February 19-20, March 26-27, 2010. The cost for all three classes is $250, which includes course materials and refreshment breaks. Classes will meet Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Level 1 must be completed before taking level 2 classes.

1. How to Practice Biblical Counseling I: Methodology

All classes in Level 2 address the practice of biblical counseling. In this first class of Level 2, the basic methodology of counseling is discussed. This class will instruct the counselor on how to conduct oneslef in a counseling session. Specific areas of study include:

  • Data Gathering
  • Asking Questions: Getting to the Heart of the Problem
  • Ministering Scripture Appropriately
  • Recognizing and Dealing with Unbiblical Thinking
  • Homework
  • What About Medication?
  • Legal and Ethical Issues
  • Record Keeping
  • Church Discipline and Biblical Counseling

2. How to Practice Biblical Counseling II: Dealing with Problems

Building on the foundation of the first class of Level 2, this second class focuses on specific problems that a counselee may be facing in his life. The counselor will learn to address these issues from a biblical perspective. Specific areas of study include:

  • Dealing with Depression
  • Dealing with Anger
  • Dealing with Anxiety
  • Dealing with ADHD and ADD
  • Dealing with Eating Problems
  • Dealing with Unforgiveness and Bitterness
  • Dealing with Sexual Sin
  • Drugs and Alcohol: Dealing with Life-Dominating Sins

3. How to Practice Biblical Counseling III: Marriage & Family

Building on the foundations of the first class of Level 2, this class addreses issues related to marraige and family. Students will learn how to counsel individuals regarding these sensitive issues from a biblical perspective. Specific areas of study include:

  • Marriage and Family Counseling
  • Dealing with Marital Infidelity
  • Dealing with Divorce
  • Dealing with Children
  • Dealing with Adolescents
  • Dealing with Blended Families
