Angela Cofer

Dr. Cofer’s interests include teaching students in all voice categories and levels as well as performing a variety of repertoire from oratorio, opera, and art song to gospel and spirituals. She has appeared as a soloist with Southwestern's Oratorio Chorus and Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra on many occasions as well as in several operatic roles with Fort Worth Opera. She is also featured on recordings by Southwestern’s Oratorio Chorus, including Kvalite Boga, Deo Gratias, and Messiah Highlights. Throughout her singing career she has also performed in various churches and universities throughout the United States and abroad.
Dr. Cofer is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Texoma Region and Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter. In 1980 she was chosen as a national finalist in the NATS Artist Awards Auditions, and in that same year was recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America. In 1987 she was awarded a Vocal Fellowship to study and perform at the Tanglewood Music Festival, where she was a soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms under the direction of Seiji Ozawa.
Dr. Cofer holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University, a Master of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Music from Louisiana State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Cofer also serves as a faculty advisor for the South, Central, and East Asian student group of Southwestern’s International Fellowship as well as for the Chinese Fellowship. She has taught and performed in Guatemala, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brazil, and Ukraine.
