Dear Friend,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Oxford 2010, the Southwestern Seminary Summer Study Program, is on the horizon.

Southwestern’s Oxford program has been introducing students and friends to British history and Baptist heritage for over 20 years. This year we are pleased to announce that the professors will be Dr. Dorothy Patterson; Dr. Edward Pauley; Dr. Terri Stovall; and your host, Dr. Malcolm Yarnell.

If you visit our website, www.swbts.edu/oxford, and click on the link, “Enrollment Forms” on the menu bar, you will find the pertinent application forms. Please return the completed application forms as soon as possible to reserve your space, for we are limited to the first 35 applicants this year. April 1, 2010 is the final date for receiving applications. Also, please indicate the courses in which you plan to participate.

In addition to delivering stimulating lectures on the Women in Church History: Puritans, Christian Apologetics, The Ministry of Education, and Baptist Heritage at historic Oxford University, the professors will be hosting a number of Baptist and Evangelical Heritage tours as well as British History and Culture tours. Of special interest in 2010 will be the emphases on C.S. Lewis and on Women's Studies.

You will also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to worship in historic churches and hear sermons from the great pulpits of England, such as the pulpit of John Carey, the father of the modern missionary movement, the pulpit of Andrew Fuller, the orthodox theologian who encouraged and supported William Carey’s missionary ground-breaking effort, and the church of the Prince of Preachers, Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Dr. Yarnell will lead you to consider the faith of the Oxford martyrs as they held firm for the preaching of the Gospel. Our itinerary also includes excursions to London, Stonehenge, Bath, Moulton, Olney, Kettering, Scotland, Gainsborough, Wales, Tewksbury, and Stratford-upon-Avon. A detailed itinerary will be available at the meeting for orientation and pre-class lectures.

The total cost of the program includes air travel to and from London, travel within Great Britain, lodging, and accommodations. No charge is made for the course tuition. If you travel with the group, the total cost is $4,200.00. If you make your own airline arrangements, the total cost is $3,400.00. In light of online tuition prices that would cost a Southern Baptist student some $2,300.00 for the same number of courses, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to earn credit while enjoying the beautiful and historical British landscape. We look forward to seeing what God has done and will do through the preachers of the saving Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In Christ,

Malcolm B. Yarnell, III
