The Baptist Marriage and Family Counseling Center also sponsors workshops in conjunction with the Seminary’s Center for Leadership Development.

The Baptist Marriage and Family Counseling Center provides four basic types of counseling:

  • Group Counseling (most readily available)
  • Family Counseling
  • Couple Counseling
  • Individual Counseling

Who May Receive Counseling?

People in the general community as well as students at the seminary (and their families) are eligible to receive counseling at the center.

Who Provides The Counseling?

Counseling services are offered by doctoral and advanced master's students in the psychology and counseling division and are supervised by the faculty of this department.  Supervised counseling is under the direction of approved supervisors and clinical members of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, the Texas State Board of Examiners of  Professional Counselors, and the Texas State Board of Marriage and Family Therapists.

What Are The Fees And Are Appointments Available?

The fees are very reasonable because the center is part of an educational institution. They vary slightly according to the type of the counseling received. Group counseling is usually the most readily available and has the lowest fees. Please call for details.

How Did a Seminary Develop a Counseling Center?

The center was begun in 1960 by Dr. John Drakeford four years after he joined the faculty. In 1991, the counseling center found a new home in the Walsh Center after Dr. and Mrs. Howard Walsh donated to the seminary the building that had previously housed his medical practice. It has been used by God to provide help for a multitude of people and to train many Christian counselors.
