Every new music student will audition and take placement examinations during orientation prior to registering for the first semester. Students beginning in a summer session will audition and take placement exams during the following fall semester orientation. Information on the auditions and placement examinations is available online.
Normally students are not excluded on the basis of these auditions and examinations; appropriate leveling work will be assigned as needed. Continuation in the music school is, however, subject to faculty review and approval. Approved students will receive notification by mail of the date of their auditions and exams.
Former students who have not been enrolled in music courses for more than five years will also take placement auditions and examinations.
