Pastor, missionary professor, director of missions dies

John W. (Jack) Patterson, Sr., 85, pastor, missionary professor, and director of missions, died on 28 February in Richmond, VA.  A native of Arizona and reared in Virginia, he was a graduate of Bob Jones University (B.A.), Southwestern Seminary (B.D., Th.D.), and the University of Edinburgh (Ph.D.). 

Patterson and his wife Pat under the FMB taught in the International Baptist Seminary in Cali, Colombia (1956-66), and he was pastor of First Church, Burleson (1953-56) and Gambrell St. Church, Fort Worth (1983-85).  While pastor of Hatcher Memorial Church, Richmond, VA (1966-83), Patterson was a Virginia member of the FMB and chairman of that board. He served as director of missions for Peninsula Association (1985-93) and Mid-Tidewater Association (1995-2006), both in Virginia. He is survived by; his wife and six children, three of whom reside in Texas and three in Virginia.
