Voice instructor to receive Mississippi College Distinguished Alumnae Award

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Carol Aultman, a longtime adjunct voice instructor in the School of Church Music at Southwestern Seminary, will be honored as a Department of Music Distinguished Alumnae of the Year for 2012 by her alma mater Mississippi College, Oct. 26. Aultman will receive the award at the annual Homecoming Awards Dinner in the student center at Mississippi College, a Christian university in Clinton, Miss.

“Mrs. Aultman is not a typical adjunctive instructor who comes and goes each year,” said Stephen Johnson, dean of Southwestern’s School of Church Music. “She has been consistently teaching at Southwestern since 1996. In these past 16 years, she has taught literally hundreds of students in individual vocal instruction.

“This semester alone, she is teaching 30 private students. All of these students have spent 30-60 minutes a week with just Carol and an accompanist in a room. The entire time is spent focusing on that student's development. Carol consistently improves the performance of the student but also the character and maturity of each student. I have personally witnessed transformations that I did not think possible.”

Aultman’s husband Jerry serves as professor of theory and Dick Baker Chair of Music Missions and Evangelism in Southwestern’s music school.
