Two-time Southwestern graduate, Keith Thomas, dies from pancreatic cancer

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Keith Thomas, senior pastor of Cornerstone of The Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas, passed away April 6 after a five-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Thomas graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 1981 and a Doctor of Ministry in 1987. Prior to coming to Cornerstone of The Woodlands, he served as pastor of churches in Florida, Alabama and Texas.  Denominationally, he served as chairman of the Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Committees, president of the Florida Baptist Convention and trustee for the North American Mission Board.

Thomas served as a trustee for several colleges and universities, including Emmanuel University and Seminary in Oradea, Romania; The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Fla., and Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. The trustees of Emanuel University have established the Dr. Keith Thomas Chair of Faith & Prayer as an endowment for a professorship and student scholarships in the discipline of study for Spiritual Formations.

A celebration service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 11 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 5000 College Park Drive, The Woodlands, Texas, 77384. Visitation will take place from 1-2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to the Dr. Keith Thomas Chair of Faith and Prayer at Emanuel University in Oradea, Romania. Designated gifts may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church of The Woodlands (8200 Northway Drive The Woodlands, TX 77382).
