Southwestern grieves loss of former dean of men

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary was saddened by the news of the passing of Trozy Barker, who served as the seminary’s dean of men for 31 years. Barker died at the age of 90 on Friday morning, Jan. 29.
Barker was born on Nov. 7, 1919, in Jonesboro, La. During World War II, he fought in Europe as a recruit to the Army Air Corps. After the war ended, he attended Ouachita Baptist University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1949 and his doctoral degree in 1976. He also earned his Bachelor of Divinity (equivalent to the M.Div.) degree at Southwestern Seminary in 1963. Upon graduation, he began to serve as dean of men at the seminary, until he retired in 1994.
Barker married Emma Jean Donathan in 1950. He is survived by his wife, as well as by their children: Julie Cook and her husband, Sam; Ted Barker and his wife, Deb; Jan Barker and his wife, Lynn; and their families.
