Southwestern's Needs

Southwestern’s fiscal needs comprise four broad categories. Prayerfully consider assisting us in meeting our critical needs.

Scholarships: While the Cooperative Program covers a portion of tuition for students who are members of Southern Baptist churches, students are responsible for the remainder. Scholarships free students from financial burdens so they can faithfully pursue training for God’s calling on their lives. Gifts to named and general scholarships give us the ability to provide much needed assistance to students.

  • The pressure of earnings on our endowed scholarships has been challenged by world economic conditions.  Please assist us in providing scholarships to our students.

Student Housing and Capital Needs: This covers expenses in the design, construction and annual operation of capital projects.

  • In light of the current financial crisis we have made the decision to suspend long-range capital campaigns, with the exception of the J.W. MacGorman Chapel. Over the last several years, we have received numerous designated gifts and pledges to the chapel.  These funds can only be used for construction of the chapel project and cannot be legally or ethically diverted to salaries, programs,  or operating deficits.  In addition, the costs of building materials to construct the chapel have decreased significantly at this time, making the project more economically feasible than it would have been in the past.  We need your continued support as we complete our chapel campaign.

Southwestern Fund: The Southwestern Fund supports the operating budget and subsidizes student tuition, housing and services. It serves as the most effective way to help a student because every dollar to the annual fund is a dollar toward a student’s overall education costs, keeping tuition as low as possible.

  • Southwestern is in the midst of the same financial crisis that confronts the world today.    By assisting us with gifts to the Southwestern Fund we are better able to reduce the dependency on the Southwestern Seminary Foundation endowment that has been negatively impacted by the economy.

Endowment Fund: Endowments support the future needs of Southwestern, including operating budget, academic programs, scholarships, professorships and academic chairs.

For more information on each of these needs, please contact  Mr. Mike Hughes, vice president for Institutional Advancement. To make a Kingdom impact by supporting Southwestern, you may make an online donation now  or investigate other ways to give.
