About Us
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary exists to provide theological education for individuals engaging in Christian ministry. Southwestern strives to provide a community of faith and learning that develops spiritual leaders with a passion for Christ and the Bible, a love for people, and the skills to minister effectively in a rapidly changing world.
Located since 1910 on its main campus in Fort Worth, during the 2005-06 academic year Southwestern Seminary had 3,567 students (non-duplicating headcount) enrolled in its Schools of Theology, Educational Ministries, Church Music, Evangelism and Missions, College, School for Theological Studies in Houston, Center for Theological Studies in San Antonio and in other off-campus centers in Plano, Marshall, College Station, Texas; Shawnee, Okla.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Bonn, Germany. Students came from 37 states, 33 foreign countries, and represented 38 denominations, although more than 95% are Southern Baptists. There are 106 full-time faculty among all schools. With 305 full-time faculty, administrators, clerical and support staff in Fort Worth, Southwestern Seminary is the 100th largest employer in Tarrant County.
"Do the work of an evangelist ... Bring the books, especially the parchments" captures for a new generation of students the historic pledge of Southwestern Seminary to serve both Southern Baptist churches and a lost world by equipping ministers for their God-ordained task, according to Seminary President Paige Patterson.
